Teresa McWilliams Farina - Fine artist
I was born in Flint, Michigan. From the time I was a child, I loved color. But it is always the light that inspires and first draws me to a subject - landscapes, still life, human and animal portraits. It sets the mood, it defines form, color and values. Painting has been an important part of my life since I was a young child. My first oil painting was completed on a canvas window shade while my father was fishing on the Ausable River MI. I had to put my art on hold during my working career in healthcare fields. My commitment is to elicit emotion from the viewer. As in life, I think of painting as a personal journey that I take in trying to create an image that engages the imagination and delight of the viewer.
I have an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts and took foundational courses with instructors from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia PA. I have also studied with well-known international artists, Charles Reid and Judi Betts in watercolor, James Dupree in oil and pastel instructors. I recently took workshops with Mark Boedges and Dennis Perrin, plein air oil painters in New England.
Before moving to East Wakefield, NH with my husband, I taught adult art education (basic drawing, pastel and oil) in PA. My paintings have received numerous awards and recognition in all media. I have exhibited in solo and juried group shows in Michigan, Upstate New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. My paintings reside in the homes and businesses of patrons throughout the US. I am a member of several art associations and exhibited in New England area art shows. I have co-coordinated the Art at the Gafney 2018 and 2019 annual fundraisers for the Gafney Library in Sanbornville NH and made numerous donations to charity organizations.
