Marcia Dionne - Quilter

I began quilting on a personal dare from my husband about 25 years ago!  I decided to take a 6 week quilting class that was advertised in the newspaper and my husband laughed out loud when I told him, reminding me that I couldn’t sew a button on a shirt… true story...Challenge met!!!

My Mom sewed for years and created many clothes for my sister and I and I never had any interest at all.  And then came the Challenge… I fell in love with the sound of a clunky old Kenmore sewing machine and the feel of quality fabric.  I completed a 4 square wall hanging, hand quilted it and hung it.  I was  so proud.  From that creation on I was hooked and never stopped.  I became obsessed with fabric shops and colors and designs.  I tried a sofa throw and then a twin size bed quilt for my daughter and then an appliqué for another daughter.  My son wanted red, whites and blues in his room and the journey continued.  Being a librarian my next passion became quilting and sewing books, and histories of quilting in America and my collection grew.  Then came a new sewing machine to replace the loved clunker.  And then another….

Everyone was gifted “quilted stuff” be it a set of placemats, or a table runner or a potholder.  I have now created my sewing room that replaced the dining room table and shelves and shelves of fabric.  The joy received from the feel of the fabric or the decision to buy that yard of fabric is daily and most grateful I took on that challenge from Gary many years ago.

I began selling some items with great hesitation, but again met that challenge and have greatly enjoyed creating pieces by request.
