Christy Bensley - Painter
Painting has always fueled my creativity. Captivated by natural light and color, I observe their interplay with landscapes, shapes, and objects in daily life. This inspires my choice of brushwork or palette knife techniques, helping me evoke mood, mystery, or discovery in my artwork.
I graduated from Connecticut College in 1981, majoring in Art History and minoring in Studio Art. My work as a textbook designer and experience in composition and photography further shaped my approach to painting.
Over the years, and when time permits, I have pursued painting by taking various art classes, primarily in oils and pastels, with a variety of talented artists. I have participated in art auctions and exhibitions, and have received numerous commissions for landscapes, portraits of children, adults, and animals. I showcase my work at the Squam Lakes Artisans Gallery in Center Harbor, NH, Sandwich Home Industries Fine Art Gallery in Sandwich, NH, and Helen Thomas Simply Smashing in Andover, MA.
I am fortunate to have traveled to many destinations, including some exotic ones, where I photograph scenes that contribute to my growth as a painter. Recently retired as an educator, painting and travel will continue to take hold. However, I always find myself returning to Squam Lake, which has captured my attention throughout my life. My family now enjoys the beauty of this region from our farmhouse in Sandwich, NH.
